    Initiated by Richard Plunz and supported by a series of grants to the Keene Valley Library, this project explored how Keene and Keene Valley came to look the way they do. Tony Goodwin was one of the primary authors who worked closely with six others whose writings are contained in Two Hamlets in Adirondack History.

    Throughout a 24-day National Geographic expedition, Benoit captured thousands of stunning images featuring birds, penguins, seals, whales, and the Southern Arctic scenery to document his experience.

    Artist Michael Gaudreau, currently showing his work at the Corscaden Barn Gallery, was introduced to the Adirondacks and Keene Valley in 1993 on a camping trip. Impressed with the beauty and grandeur of the High Peaks, he has been returning every year to paint and hike with his wife Kate. Michael will discuss his work, the adventures of plein air vs. studio painting, and the many artists that have influenced him.

    This second program on the Antarctic, following the presentation by Peter Benoit, will explore the scientific, global environmental, and geopolitical significance of the continent. Speakers will include polar biologist Sam Bowser, with many years of research experience in the Antarctic, Lija Treibergs of the Adirondack Watershed Institute, who returned in March from her second deployment to the continent as part of the McMurdo Long-Term Ecological Research Project, and political scientist Pete Suttmeier.
